Retired U.S. Flags to be Collected at Great Grill Out Event
Shorehaven’s Service League of Volunteers will hold its annual Great Grill Out on Friday, June 14 from 11 am to 1:30 pm in the Forgotten Treasures parking lot under a big top tents at 1305 W. Wisconsin. The theme of the event is “A Flag Day Celebration” in honor of our country, our flag and all our veterans.
The Oconomowoc American Legion Post 91 will be on site to collect retired (unserviceable) tattered or faded American flags for proper disposal. This organization is recognized as an experienced group in flag disposal and flag retirement ceremonies. According to the United States Flag Code: “The American Flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
Event attendees include Shorehaven residents and their families, plus residents/businesses from Oconomowoc and area communities. Lunch is $8 per person and entertainment will be ‘A Little Bit of Heaven’ band from 12 to 1 pm.
Proceeds will be used to purchase lifelike therapy Baby Dolls and Companion Pets with built in sensors that respond to motion and touch for Memory Care residents.
