Collaboration in art – Founders’ Gallery Artist Reception featuring Abigail Engstrand and Anne Raskopf takes place Sunday, January 14 from 2 to 3:30 pm. This free event kicks off the artists’ joint display through Feb. 28. Engstrand moved to Oconomowoc from Chicago in 1999, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1988 at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). The artist said, “I am so ignited by playing with color and contrasts! Lately my subject matter has a lot to do with different paths and views, both literally and figuratively, roads into the woods, broad expansive horizons, feelings, and changing perceptions. I have always loved stories, hearing, reading and telling them. The story of life’s cycles is a core interest in all my work, be it partnering, parenting, teaching or making art. When I’m feeling my groove, I like to sing to music while painting or felting. Keeping healthy includes dancing, yoga, and daydreaming in my garden. I’m in love with all the senses and am happiest when I can swirl them all together into my process!”

Anne Slatinsky-Raskopf is best known for her swaying, rhythmic, colorful wilderness landscapes painted using acrylic on canvas. Like work by Marc Chagall and Paul Gauguin, Anne’s paintings, with bold colors, striking patterns and mesmerizing blends, give the viewer a chance to enjoy the splendor of the woods. The process begins with photographing the shapes and patterns Anne encounters in state parks, county parks or private land. Sometimes the perspective is on horseback other times on foot. Anne earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Wisconsin Madison where she was influenced by the spontaneity of ceramic Professor Don Reitz and the academic precision of Professor Richard Lee Long. The opportunity to live and explore across the country has been extremely beneficial for Anne as a painter. Anne is a member of Wisconsin Visual Artists. Engstrand’s and Raskopf’s art work will be on display at the Center for Life Enrichment from January 1 through February 28 with 20% of all purchases benefitting the Center. Public is invited!
